Team 237 2007 Regional Matches
When
we are done building this robot, we have to see how it plays
the game. We do that at regional competitions. We
give the
students two opportunities locally and one internationally to compete
against other robots.
In 2007 we attended the New Jersey Regional and the Connecticut
Regional. The regionals have 30 to 40 teams that compete
over a
three day period.
Thursday is a practice, inspect and fix the robot day. All
the
robots must pass a full inspection at each event. This
involves
all systems, size and weight.
Friday is the first day of competition. The teams are
randomly
matched with other teams to both compete with and against.
The
students need to learn how to work with the competition and against the
competition. This is one of the basis's of "Gracious
Professionalism". You play hard, you compete hard, and you
help
each other with the same energy that you compete with.
Saturday has the balance of the elimination matches and the final
rounds to determine a regional champion. Team 237 has three
regional championships to their credit. 2000 New York,
2002
Connecticut and 2004 New Jersey.
We have some archived matches here for you to sample. To be
honest, the video archives do not capture the excitement of a FRC
competition. It's a circus, it's rock and roll,
it's a
giant dance party all thrown into one event. There
is nothing like being there. Join us if you can ;)
