Team 237 2008 Pre-season Activity Archive

Team 237 is currently wrapping up the pre-season preparations for this years challenge.   We have been very busy visiting some of our sponsors, holding classes and most importantly, getting to know each other.

The team visited both The Siemon Company and Trumpf USA this year.  Team 237 is very proud to be supported by two of the top technology companies in Connecticut.

The Siemon Company has been a supporter of Team 237 since we started this program.  The Siemon Company is the world leader in network cabling solutions.   They make the highest performing twisted copper cabling system available.  Twisted cooper is by far the most cost effective high-speed cabling solution available.   The Siemon Company was born in Connecticut and is the major employer in Watertown.

Trumpf Inc - North America  is the largest  manufacturer of fabrication machinery in the United States and a world market leader in industrial production laser technology.  Their product line includes hand tools, bending, punching and shaping machines and multiple type of industrial cutting and welding lasers.  Annette Doyle led the team in a few very exciting design challenges using paper and tape.

The team ran a very successful demo at Barnes and Noble in Waterbury where we showcased the book FIRST Robots: Behind The Design..  Team 237 was the only Connecticut team to be included in this the first book about specific robots and their design challenges.

The team annually marches in the Watertown Memorial day Parade.  The Watertown Rotary Club is always a very gracious host to the students and the robot, giving us space on the end of their float.

The Fall Festival is always a great showcase for the team.  We get to meet and greet Watertown residents and show off what the current machine does.  The kids are the best.  They can't seem to get enough of the robot.
