Team 237 2008 Build Season Week 3 Archive

01/26/08 Week 3 Day 6   Our first Saturday build session.  It went well, lots got done.   I wish I could of stayed all day.

attention to detail

Attention to details is one of the things that Team 237 teaches its students.  We expect all the students to how and why certain things are done the way they are done.  All students get to work if they want.  Freshman, like Kyle, are encouraged to get dirty with the robot.

01/25/08 Week 3 Day 5.   The frame is going together.  The wheels are finished. The tension is a little less since we actually have parts connected to other parts.   Hopefully  we will have a rolling base on Saturday.  Yes, we're working Saturday.

The team is holdng together well.  We are at the midpoint of build.  This is the time when the strain starts to show.   It's all down hill from here.
01/24/08 Week 3 Day 4.  Huge progress made today.  We actually have two manufacturing tracks going, the base team and the manipulator team.  The manipulator is being worked hard in CAD and is finally getting metal cut and assembled.  It's getting to look like a robot.

Tension has set in.  The weekend work sessions are here.  We will be in Saturday from 9:00 to 5:00.  If we get a good, productive session under our belts, we'll feel better.

01/23/08 Third Day of Week 3.  Actually building and cutting metal today.   Feels good, but we are so far behind.

We have a problem.  Somehow someone in the school system is not getting that we need time and space to do this. It's a frustrating situation to be in. We have a new principal and a new superintendent, but we also have a great track record.    Several emails later we seem to have a solution to the problem.  We will get the access that we need.  What about this does not make sense to the school system?  We run this program totally as a volunteer program.  We demand nothing from the school.   It should be a win-win to have a group of volunteers willing to devote the time and energy to providing a program of this caliber to the students.

01/22/08 Second day week 3.  School is again closed due to the weather.  This is putting us very, very far behind.  The only good thing is that I get to spend quality time with my wife.  That time is precious during build season.  She knows that this is important.  I appreciate all her support.

I am so lucky

01/21/08 First Day Week 3.  It's a holiday so we can't get into the school to build.  The mechanical team works at an offsite location.  These small sessions produce a lot of work.

I want to talk about the community of FIRST.   For many of these students, this is their first experience networking on a global scale.  When you join FIRST, you become part of this larger "Family" of students and adults all working on a common challenge.  The challenge binds us all together.  The longer we belong, the more we become involved in the community.

Team 47 from Pontiac, MI hosts a major online forum for the FIRST Community.   Chiefdelphi.com has 18,000 members with 7,000 active in the current season.  No matter what time of the day, there is a "family" member on line at Chiefdelphi.   Birthdays, marriages and passing's are all celebrated on Chiefdelphi.   This is a very special place.  This program makes us family and we all hang out at Chiefdelphi.

2007 Web Hug

At the Championship in Atlanta, the community gets together for a quick meet and greet and a giant web hug.  Thanks Chiefdelphi.
