A huge crowd was on hand in NH for Kickoff. The crowd has doubled in size since we first started going.
Game Day is here. Nice seeing lots of friends last night. No new ideas what the game will be. More later.
01/02/09 One
more day until kickoff. We are getting ready to leave.
I'll post some pictures of todays activities.
FYI. All those at the team lock-in. Don't hurt
Sean. Lock in is no excuse for not watching webcast.
01/01/09 Happy
New Year.
Kickoff is two days away. We leave tomorrow for
Manchester, NH Dinner and drinking with a bunch of FIRST
friends then Sat 10 AM kickoff. I am getting excited.
I am finally looking forward to this year's six weeks.
The pre-season has been tough. Trying to get the
kids interested in fund raising seems to be much harder this year.
It has affected our planning. We are not committed
to going to championships in Atlanta this year. It's a lot of
money and with the economy the way it is, it will be tough.
We are wait listed, but may send a small crew if we win a regional.
We are in New York and Hartford for sure.
12/31/08 Kickoff is three days away. It's snowing
like crazy here. That is not a good thing. Snow
during the
six weeks will put us behind. I am getting very concerned
about
the new control system. The community forum of
Chief
Delphi
is constantly being updated with new questions and horror stories of
teams breaking their control system setup. I know that FIRST
is
concerned.
CT FIRST
will have a help desk up and running for the six weeks.
Thanks, CT FIRST.
12/30/08 Kickoff
is four days away. It's early this
year. We'll be brainstorming before school starts back up and
before I get back to work. What our team does is brainstorm
for
a couple of days and decide exactly what we want to accomplish.
We will stick to that plan as best as we can. With only six
weeks, there is not a lot that can deviate.
We spent quality time this pre-season discussing different designs,
their strengths and weaknesses. We hope this will improve
our
decision making once the 6 weeks begins.
I spent an afternoon this week with my 13 year old nephew working with
a Lego Mindstorm kit. It was an amazing experience.
There
is so much that this kit offers. The exercises are involved
enough so it takes hours to complete each assignment. The
directions that Lego puts out are amazing. They really
understand
the target audience. They make it so everyone is challenged
but
will be successful. Very nice kit.
We purchased a book at Barnes and Noble called
LEGO
MINDSTORMS NXT One-kit Wonders: Ten
Inventions to Spark Your Imagination
What a fantastic book. This will keep my nephew busy for
awhile.
One problem I have with kits like this is that the projects
are
usually simple without any real life applications. This book
is
all about real life applications. We discussed on that sorted
M&M's by color. Cool idea, but it was easy to discuss
how to
apply it to sorting packages in a warehouse. Very cool.
12/29/08 Kickoff for 2009 is five days away.
The first game clue this year.....
The second game clue....
Take your machine out of the shop on Colorado in Paramount;
stop by and get connected on Central in Phoenix;
drive by and make a pickup on Minnetonka in Minnetonka;
then head to the field on Evergreen in Dover.
What does it mean. I have NO
idea this year.
